Single Travel Strollers: Tailored Guidance for Choosing the Right One
Based on my research and travel experience, these are the travel strollers I believe are best tailored to make traveling with young children easier.
A quick note: I believe in being transparent about my recommendations. While I haven't personally tested every stroller featured here, I've compared them using the same travel-focused criteria throughout this guide.
That being said, I loved the Bugaboo Butterfly so much that we ended up buying a second one when our youngest was born. Today, we own two - one for each child - and they've become some of our most-used pieces of baby gear, both at home and while traveling.
When I travel with my family - whether it's Disney World, Europe, or simply navigating a busy airport - a travel stroller has to do much more than just push my child from point A to point B. It needs to make traveling easier, not add another layer of stress.
These are the six features I prioritize when choosing and reviewing a travel stroller.

Travel-Friendly Size
The biggest reason I'm choosing a travel stroller is portability. I want a stroller that folds down small enough to fit in the overhead bin on most airplanes whenever possible, making air travel much easier.
I also consider how well it fits into real-life travel situations:
Airline overhead bin compatibility
Folded dimensions
Packing alongside suitcases in the trunk
Maneuvering through airports
Navigating buses, trains, subways, and taxis
Taking up minimal space in hotel rooms
The smaller and more travel-friendly the footprint, the better.

Easy, One-Handed Fold
A stroller can be incredibly compact, but if it's difficult to fold, it quickly becomes frustrating while traveling.
I'm looking for a smooth, intuitive, one-handed fold that allows me to collapse the stroller while holding my toddler if needed. Whether I'm placing it on the TSA security belt, boarding a Disney bus, hopping onto a European train, or catching public transportation at the last minute, I need a stroller that folds quickly and effortlessly.
Bonus points if it stands on its own once folded.

Lightweight & Easy to Carry
Travel often means carrying more than just a stroller. Between luggage, backpacks, diaper bags, and sometimes a sleepy toddler, every pound matters.
I prefer lightweight strollers with a built-in carry strap or carry handle that make them comfortable to carry through airports, up and down stairs, across train platforms, or onto an airplane without feeling cumbersome.

Large, Practical Storage Basket
Just because a stroller is compact doesn't mean it should sacrifice storage.
A generous under-seat basket is essential for carrying everything we need throughout the day, including:
Diaper bag
Water bottles
Snacks
Extra clothing
Jacketse + Rain Gear
Souvenirs
A well-designed basket should also be easy to access, even when the seat is reclined.

Compatibility with Your Existing Stroller/Car Seat System
If you already own a full-size stroller, it's worth considering whether the travel stroller works seamlessly with the gear you already have.
Some travel strollers are compatible with infant car seats through adapters, allowing you to transfer a sleeping baby from the car to the stroller without disturbing them. Others may share accessories or coordinate with products already in your stroller system, making the transition between your everyday stroller and travel stroller much more convenient.
If you're shopping for a travel stroller before your child is out of an infant car seat, compatibility can extend the stroller's usefulness from day one. Even with older children, staying within the same stroller system may save you from purchasing duplicate accessories and can make packing for trips much simpler.
While this may not be a deciding factor for every family, it's an important feature to consider if you already have an investment in a stroller system.
5.
Child Comfort
A happy, comfortable child makes for a much more enjoyable vacation.
I pay close attention to:
Seat padding
Recline position
Adjustable leg rest
Overall seat comfort
Suspension and ride quality
Since many travel days include naps on the go, I want a stroller that allows my child to comfortably sleep during long park days, sightseeing, or while exploring a new city.

Canopy & Sun Protection
Long days outside make sun protection incredibly important.
I look for a stroller with a generous canopy that provides excellent shade throughout the day. Features like UPF-rated fabric, ventilation panels, and good coverage while the seat is reclined all help keep little ones cool and protected during Disney vacations, beach trips, and sightseeing adventures.
